What you need to know

To study in Belgium for more than 90 days, a non-EU student must obtain a provisional residence authorisation (type D visa) from the Belgian consular post, before departure. The file rests on an admission to a recognised institution, proof of sufficient means of subsistence (an official monthly amount, indexed every year) and a complete administrative file. For studies, the law sets a 90-day decision deadline from the acknowledgement of receipt of a complete application; it is regularly exceeded in peak season.
