How much does a year at a Belgian university cost for a non-EU student?
For 2026-2027, a non-assimilated non-EU student pays the ordinary tuition fee (raised to around 1 194 € by the reform voted in June 2026) plus an additional contribution of 4 175 €, that is, in the region of 5 369 € per year, with around 200 € of application fees on top.
What is the enrolment deadline?
For a non-resident non-EU applicant who will need a visa, the admission application generally closes on 31 March of the year of entry. Preparing the file early avoids limited places and missing documents.
What level of French is required?
French-speaking universities generally require a B2 level (sometimes C1 depending on the programme), proven by a recognised test (DELF, DALF, TCF) or by the university's admission exam.
Which programmes are capped for non-residents?
Non-resident access is limited by quota in several health programmes: medicine and dentistry (a quota of around 15 %), physiotherapy, speech therapy and veterinary medicine (around 20 to 30 % depending on the programme), often with a draw or a competitive exam.
Do I need an equivalence of my secondary diploma to enrol?
Yes: to enter the first year of a bachelor, the equivalence of the secondary school leaving diploma issued by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation is required. The process is long, so it is best to start it the previous autumn.
