Université de Mons

Enrolling at UMons from abroad.

A full university at the heart of Hainaut, UMons welcomes international students across its Mons and Charleroi campuses. Here is the journey of a non-EU applicant for 2026-2027.

Enrolling at UMons from abroad (non-EU)

In short

For 2026-2027, a non-assimilated non-EU student enrolling at UMons pays the ordinary tuition fee (raised to around 1 194 € by the reform voted in June 2026) and an additional contribution of 4 175 €, that is, in the region of 5 369 € for the year. The admission application closes on 31 March 2026 for a non-resident applicant, with a 200 € application fee.

How much does enrolment at UMons cost for a non-EU student?

The cost is made up of the ordinary tuition fee, common to all students, and an additional contribution specific to non-assimilated non-EU nationals. This contribution is a single flat amount of 4 175 €, identical whatever the programme or cycle.

ItemAmount 2026-2027
Ordinary tuition fee (full rate)around 1 194 €
Additional contribution for non-assimilated non-EU students4 175 €
Indicative annual totalaround 5 369 €
Application fee (deposit deducted from tuition if enrolment)200 €

The 4 175 € contribution stems from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation program decree of 17 December 2025. The increase of the ordinary tuition fee to around 1 194 € comes from a reform voted in June 2026, pending publication in the Belgian Official Gazette (Moniteur belge). As long as its 2026-2027 schedule is not published, UMons still displays the 2025-2026 amounts (835 € of tuition fee, that is 5 010 € in total). We recalculate your exact cost at the time of the file.

Who is exempt from the 4 175 € contribution?

Only non-assimilated non-EU students pay the contribution. An assimilated student (scholarship holder, long-term resident, refugee, modest income, family tie with an assimilated person) pays like a resident. Added to this is the exemption linked to nationality: nationals of the countries listed in the annexes of the ARES circular (least developed countries, low human development index, additional list) are exempt from the additional contribution, but remain liable for the ordinary tuition fee. Senegal, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire and Lebanon fall under it; Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria do not appear there and remain liable, unless they qualify for individual assimilation.

Exempt from the contribution does not mean exempt from everything: the student concerned pays the ordinary tuition fee, like a Belgian resident. It is one of the first points we check for you.

What is the admission application timeline?

For a non-EU applicant who does not reside in Belgium and needs a visa, the admission application closes on 31 March 2026 (at 11:59 p.m., Belgian time) for the 2026-2027 academic year. For other applicants, the deadline is 31 August. The equivalence of the secondary diploma is requested in parallel.

  1. 1Request the equivalence of the secondary school leaving diploma from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
  2. 2Prepare the admission application online and gather all the documents.
  3. 3Pay the 200 € application fee, a condition for the application to be examined.
  4. 4Receive the decision, then start the visa application and finalise the enrolment.

At UMons, the 200 € is a deposit deducted from tuition if the enrolment is finalised, and not refunded in case of refusal or non-completed enrolment. An admitted applicant needing a visa must moreover be present in Belgium by 30 September at the latest.

What level of French is required at UMons?

For a programme in French, UMons requires a B2 level at minimum, attested by a DELF B2, a DALF C1 or a TCF less than two years old. An exemption is possible for a diploma followed mostly in French, or for nationals of Belgium, Luxembourg or France whose mother tongue is French.

Medicine, speech therapy: the capped programmes

Medicine and dental sciences go through the entrance examination common to the French Community, held on 27 August 2026, with a quota of 15 % of non-resident successful candidates. At UMons, speech therapy and psychological sciences (bachelor) are moreover under restricted access for non-residents, with a draw in case the places are exceeded. Applications to the draw-based programmes go through the Mesetudes platform, over a short window.
